"To my team, we went through great moments, tough moments, and they have helped me to get this trophy. I'm 36 years old so things are a little bit tougher now but they help me to get through it. The results are incredible because of the work and the dedication of my team."

To the crowd: "The support I received this year was very special even though Jannik was your favourite. It is special to play here because of the passion you bring, it's unique.

"It has been one of the most successful seasons I have had in my career.

"I would like to thank all the people who are part of our sport. We have the longest season of all sports, a lot of tournaments around the world and it's amazing to see this many people from around the world coming to support tennis. Hopefully I will see you next year."

"Very special. One of the best seasons I've had in my life, no doubt.

"To crown it against a home town hero in Jannik [Sinner] this week is phenomenal.

"Tactically I played differently today than in the group stage [when he lost] against Jannik. Overall a phenomenal week."

On his children watching from the side: "They have been so good. It's a thrill. I always wanted to perform in front of them once they reached the age where they are aware of what's going on. I'm so grateful to be a father of these two wonderful angels. They give me strength no doubt."

    Quite simply too good.

Novak Djokovic faced a much tougher challenge from Jannik Sinner in that second set, but it still wasn't enough to derail the world number one.

It's a record seventh ATP Finals title for the 24-time Grand Slam champion, moving ahead of Roger Federer.

Close, but not close enough for the Italian. The world number one is a game away.

Jannik Sinner is having much more joy on Novak Djokovic's serve now. It's not shaping up to be the untouchable charge to the finish line by the Serb that it appeared only a few games ago.

Wow! You don't see that very often. Novak Djokovic misses what is, for him, a straightforward put-away.

Jannik Sinner then slams down an ace to get over the line and, after all that, the Italian still has a chance.

The crowd sense that miss from Djokovic could be the start of a momentum shift. Sinner might too.

A fifth game point passes for Jannik Sinner and it's greeted by more groans from the crowd. They know that was there for the taking - and they also know that Novak Djokovic will only allow him so many chances.

A big slice of luck when he needs it. Jannik Sinner offers a brief apology to Novak Djokovic as a shot clips the cord and drops over, well beyond the reach of even the world number one.

The back and forth continues as the game extends into a ninth minute, Sinner missing another opportunity with a long forehand under pressure.
